Gentille Alouette
The boutique, with an intimate setting reminiscent of your grandmother's closet, carries indie designers, wearable art and unique jewelry pieces, and is ownes and operated by fashion designer and die-hard perfumista Eliza Lau.
Eliza's life-long dream has been to create her own custom scent, and she has picked me of all perfumers to help her realize this fantasy. Next Thursday I will be at her shop to start the process of hand-picking the most gorgeous essences to scent the feather of this gentle sparrow...

Cute name for a shop.
"Alouette, gentille Alouette
Alouette, je te plumerai..."
Here is a sweet story about a little sparrow, as told by my German grandmother. It is about the "Ulmer Spatzle", the little sparrow of Ulm.
The townsfolk of Ulm had a reputation of not being too bright. They were trying to build a cathedral. But they couldn't get the beams through the doorway because they tried to carry them by their width! Then a woman noticed a little sparrow building a nest. The sparrow pushed the twigs lengthwise through a narrow space and thus built her nest. The woman told the builders and they copied the wise sparrow of Ulm and built their cathedral.
I love that story, and its memories. Maybe that will inspire something for the scent, maybe you'll just smile at that charming innocent story. :)
Odysseusm,
Thank you for sharing this tale. It's beautiful. There are lots of hilarious Jewish jokes and tales about a city of a similar name. It's probably variations on the same concept...
I will begin to compose with Eliza on Thursday. Very excited about it!
